Monazite

This reddish-brown monazite of ours is largely found in sand in many parts of north central and northeastern Nigeria. The hard and resistant thorium-rich phosphate mineral contains important rare-earth elements such as cerium and lanthanum with formula Ce,La,Th)PO4.
